PROGRAMMA
Tijdsblok 1.A
The future of reading and the future of the book
Aidan Chambers
lezing in het Engels met simultaanvertaling
A discussion of the developments in reading and writing that teachers
and librarians need to take into account in their work with young
people.
With so much happening in the development of ‘the sign system’
– communication by electronic systems as well as on paper
– we need to think about what the future might be for both
reading itself and for The Book as a means of communication. This
lecture will consider this topic, placing emphasis on the practical
implications for teachers and librarians.
Aidan Chambers is a writer of novels and stories,
plays, and books on literature and the teaching of literature. He
also owns a small publishing house with his wife, Thimble Press,
which publishes books on children’s literature and reading.
He lectures frequently at universities, and gives talks in schools
and to other groups of interested people. More about him on his
website: www.aidanchambers.co.uk.
